John Slattery (Mad Men, Reflector) has joined the cast of the USA Network drama series The Rain Makerbased on the best-selling novel by John Grisham and its film adaptation of the same name.
In a series regular role, Slattery will play one of Grisham’s most iconic characters, Leo F. Drummond, a legendary courtroom lion and senior partner at Tinley Britt, the powerful law firm that Rudy Baylor is up against. Jon Voight He played Leo in Francis Ford Coppola film released in 1997.
Created and executive produced by Michael Seitzman, the Lionsgate and Blumhouse series follows fresh-out-of-law-school graduate Rudy Baylor as he clashes with court boss Leo Drummond and his girlfriend, who also has a law degree.
Rudy, along with his boss and his sloppy legal assistant, uncover two intertwined conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client’s son.
The Rain Maker received a series order from cable network NBCUniversal in June, capping a six-year journey by Seitzman to bring the book to TV.
Seitzman and Jason Richman wrote the pilot script, with Seitzman serving as series writer. The two executive produce with Grisham, Jason Blum and David Gernert.
