This weekend at Disney’s D23 Expo, Dr. Johnson is a medical doctor. showed up to announce a new monster truck movie project he’s developing titled Monster Jam.
The film is inspired by monster truck drivers and the story will revolve around a series of competitive monster truck motorsports events that have toured the United States since 1992.
In these Monster Jam events, monster trucks compete in three forms of competition that include racing, two-wheel skill, and freestyle. The Monster Jam website describes the movie as “set in the Monster Jam universe,” so it will most likely follow that format closely.
Some of the other competitions at the event test your driving skills and ability to put on a great show like the car crushing contest. Monster Jam retired it in 2019, which is silly because it was awesome! But maybe they’ll bring it back for the movie.
Johnson told D23: “We had the opportunity to create something immersive, awesome, and fun, and also a live-action experience for our families around the world, from the perspective of these incredible, iconic monster trucks and their very eccentric, crazy drivers. Ladies and gentlemen, Monster Jam is going to be one hell of a ride.”
Juliette Feld Grossman, CEO of Feld Entertainment, Monster Jam’s parent company, said on her website: “Together, The Rock and Monster Jam are truly the best!
“We are thrilled to partner with Dwayne Johnson and Walt Disney Studios to bring viewers into the world of Monster Jam in a high-octane live action adventure that will take Monster Jam’s biggest trucks and characters from the stadium to the screen.”
Seeing Disney and Monster Jam collaborate is interesting and I’m sure with Johnson involved the film will be fun.
