Disney has released a new trailer for its upcoming film Mufasa: The Lion Kingwhich debuted at the D23 Expo. The trailer is now online for everyone to watch.
This film serves as a prequel to the original film which will tell the story of the rise of the greatest king of the Pride Lands… Mufasa.
The film comes from the director Author: Barry Jenkins From Moonlight AND If the street could talkand this is a story that he told with great enthusiasm and passion.
He explained that he grew up watching the original film hundreds of times and that it was one of the ones that clearly inspired him.
The story “tasks Rafiki to tell the legend of Mufasa to the young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa adding their own personal touches.
“Told through flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a friendly lion named Taka, heir to a royal line.
“A chance encounter sets in motion a long journey for an extraordinary group of misfits as they search for their destiny, testing their bonds as they work together to escape a deadly enemy.”
The film’s voice cast includes Aaron Pierre like Mufasa, by Kelvin Harrison Jr. like Taka, Seth Rogen like Pumbaa, Billy Eichner like Timon, John Kani like Rafiki.
The rest of the cast includes Tiffany Boone, Kagiso Lediga, Preston Nyman, Graziella Newton, Mads Mikkelsen, Rose Anika Noni, David DiMatteo, John Kani, Beyonce Knowles Carter like Nala, and presenting Carter Blue Ivy like Kiara, daughter of King Simba and Queen Nala.
The screenplay of the film was written by Jeff Nathansonthe same author behind 2019 The Lion King.
Walt Disney Pictures will release Mufasa: The Lion King in theaters on December 20, 2024.
