Genndy Tartakovsky (Samurai Jack, Primal, Hotel Transylvania, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) has finished his R-rated animated film project titled Fixedand it’s a movie I was really looking forward to seeing, but now it might not happen.
The film follows a dog who finds out he’s going to be neutered the next morning, and the story follows what he does in the next 24 hours. Tartakovsky was inspired by films like The Virgin at 40 AND Pregnant during the development of this project.
Well, according to Puck’s Matt Belloni, Fixed is another film project that has been “shelved” by Warner Bros. Tartakovsky wrapped the film early last year and it features a voice cast that includes Adam Devine AND Author: Kathryn Hahn.
For some reason, Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav hates some of the movies the studio has made, and Fixed now joins them. Bat-girl AND Coyote vs ACME club.
Fixed has reportedly been returned to Sony Pictures, who are now looking to sell it to any streamer or distributor that will bite. Without a buyer, Fixed may never see the light of day, which is a shame.
I’m not a fan of Warner Bros. for many reasons and they continue to make it difficult for me to appreciate them with their stupid decisions.
The main character of the film is named Bull, just an ordinary dog who finds out he’s going to be neutered the next morning. But, “as the gravity of this life-altering event sinks in, Bull realizes he needs one last adventure with his pack of best friends, because this is his last 24 hours with his balls.”
Tartakovsky has spoken about the film before, saying, “Some people might feel uncomfortable.” But, the goal for him is not to shock the audience, the goal for him is to make “a classic film. As Lady and the Tramp OR 101 Chargebut not for children under 17. If you can look past the balls and assholes, you will find a very sweet, charming and sincere story of friendship and romance.”
Devine played Bull, and Idris Elba played his friend Rocco. Along with them there are Bobby Moynihan like Lucky, Fred Armisen like Fetch, Beck Bennett’s Blog like SterlingGallo River like Frankie and Michelle Buteau like Molasses. Hahn will play Honey, Bull’s love interest.
Tartakovsky spoke about casting, saying, “I’ve been doing this for 30 years, and when you find someone who knows the comedic timing as a voice actor, that’s everything. It makes our job a lot easier.”
He continued, “Also, I like that the voices disappear. When Idris plays Rocco, you might recognize him, but then you just get used to it.”
The film was made using traditional hand-drawn 2D animation, and Tartakovsky said of it, “It’s become a lost art. Nowadays, everything is computer-generated. It was my dream to do that.” He went on to call it a love letter to Bugs Bunny or Tex Avery, or even 1950s Disney.
Murdocca added: “It became this homage. We were able to secure animators that we never thought we could get. That’s when it became very exciting.”
Tartakovsky continued, “Comedy is always the hardest thing, but in animation you create it from scratch. That’s why I got into it. I could draw a little stickman running, and my friends would look over my shoulder and laugh. It’s such an incredible illusion.”
She added: “We have four levels of humor here: the raunchy stuff, the physicality, some character humor and dog owner humor. We don’t talk about pop culture; we don’t make fun of the Kardashians. It’s just within this world.”
That world includes a place called “The Hump House,” which is where Bull and his friends end up in the story. But, Tartakovsky teased, that’s “nothing compared to the explosive ending of the film, which is raunchy, very sexual but also very heartfelt.”
Let’s hope that one day we will be able to see this film: it would be a shame if a project by Genndy Tartakivsky would never be released.
