HELLBOY: THE CROOKED MAN director says he approached the horror film as a Stephen King adaptation

You know, I really liked what I saw of this new Hellboy movie, Hellboy: The Crooked Manwhich is a reinterpretation forbidden to minors of Mike Mignolacomics by .

Obviously I love what Guillermo del Toro AND Ron Perlman they did with their movies, and it’s a shame they never got to finish their trilogy, but the next movie looks like it could be a lot of fun!

Jack Kesy takes on the role of Big Red in this adaptation and this time the story is set in the 50’s which is awesome! I love that we’re getting a period Hellboy movie. Plus, it’s 100% a horror story!

In the film, Hellboy teams up with a rookie BPRD agent named Tom Ferrell and they find themselves stranded in the Appalachian countryside in the 1950s.

“There, they discover a small community infested with witches, led by a local devil with a disturbing connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man.” The story will “expand the world of Hellboy through one of the most beloved issues of the comic series.”

During a recent interview with GameRadar+, director Brian Taylor spoke about the horror aspect of the film, saying, “It’s a horror story, it’s a horror movie, it’s as simple as that.”

He went on to say that he approached the film as if he were adapting a Stephen King novel.

Taylor said: “I took it like, ‘This is an adaptation. I’m adapting the story like I would adapt a Stephen King story, it’s all there in the text. I’m going to make it with as much love and care as I can.’

“I think fans of the original comic are going to love it. I already know there are people online who have seen the teasers and stuff like that and are like, ‘This is the comic.’ This is what we want.”

Taylor also explained that it was important for the Hellboy movie to be separate from what we’ve seen on screen so far.

He said: “I knew we weren’t going to reference the other films, they’re their own thing. They’re great, but this isn’t a space opera, right? It’s a folklore story, it’s contained. It’s an attempt to keep things a little simpler, I think.

“I feel like movies have gotten really, really complicated. And we’re talking about this, I mean, movies these days are two or three hours long and an hour of people explaining things and I still don’t get it.”

“It tires me out. I think a good folk horror story is a simple thing, and that’s how we approached it.”

Well, I hope he succeeds! I hope his Hellboy movie gives us a good time and a strong story. That’s all I ask.

The film also stars Adelina Rodolfo (Resident Evil), Jefferson’s White (Yellow stone) HOW Tom Ferrel, Leah McNamara like Effie Kolb, Joseph Marcellus like Reverend Watts, Hannah Margetson like Cora Fisher, and Martin Bassindale like the Curved Man, among others.
