Henry Cavill felt “sick to his stomach” after smoking that cigar all day while filming the DEADPOOL and WOLVERINE scenes

Deadpool and Wolverine director by Shawn Levi sat down with The New York Times to talk about a number of things about the film, including Henry Cavill when he had to play a variant of Wolverine and how the experience made the actor ill.

Before talking about Cavill, however, the director declared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he had almost considered inserting a real wolverine into the film, but that due to time constraints he was unable to do so.

There is a sequence in the film that features My name is Ryan Reynolds.Deadpool traverses the multiverse in search of the perfect Wolverine.

Levy said: “Number seven was a real Wolverine. We really wanted a real Wolverine, the animal, and he would slaughter Deadpool. But we came up with that idea too late to do a convincing digital Wolverine, so I have that in my back pocket in case I need it for any sequels.”

Levy then spoke about former Superman actor Henry Cavill, saying that the actor got sick because he had to smoke Wolverine’s cigar… all day on set.

The director said, “He kept that cigar lit and in his mouth for the entire day of shooting. I remember hearing the next day that Henry was nauseous because he had been inhaling cigar smoke for eight hours straight, but he never faltered.”

Levy also addressed Cavill’s cameo in Wolverine in another interview with Variety, saying, “If we’re going to talk about him, we have to call him by his real credited name, Cavill, which Ryan coined.

“I knew it was undeniable as soon as Ryan came up with that term. He said ‘yes’ right away because he knew it would be subversive and playful.

“I also did it out of great affection for him and his work, and playing with his legacy as a DC hero now that he appears as a variant of a Marvel hero.”

Seeing Cavill as Wolverine was pretty damn awesome. It was a fun little scene, and while we’ll most likely never see Cavill in the role again, at least we got to see what Cavill would look like as Wolverine!
