A few years have passed since then Elizabeth Olsen brought Wanda Maximoff to life Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessleaving fans wondering if Scarlet Witch’s story was truly over.
Buried beneath Mount Wundagore after a devastating multiversal rampage, her fate has remained one of the MCU’s greatest mysteries. But Olsen recently shared her thoughts on her time as Wanda, her possible future in the franchise, and why she continues to champion the superhero genre.
During a recent interview with InStyle, Olsen reflected on her return as Wanda Marvel Zombiespart of the Marvel Animation lineup. However, he admitted that it’s been a long time since he recorded those lines.
“I recorded this a long time ago, I’m sorry,” he said. “It’s so crazy that… I feel terrible because I… I can’t talk about it anymore.”
This makes sense considering he likely voiced the role during filming Multiverse of madnesswhich means years have passed since then. When asked if Wanda is still alive in the MCU, Olsen had no insider answers.
“I have no idea,” he replied.
However, many fans believe that his return is only a matter of time, especially with the rumors circulating about Avengers: Doomsday.
Speaking about what brings her back to Marvel, Olsen lit up when describing the experience of working on those massive productions.
“And silly. It’s ridiculous,” he said, laughing. “We’re grown people acting like kids on a playground. We’re flying. We’re taking things off our hands.
“And she’s a character I’ve come back to so many times in 10 years. It’s nice to put her down and then I miss her and want her back. I would jump at the chance to be in her shoes again.”
For Olsen, making these films is mostly about the people behind them. “It’s the coherence of a community and a work, which is hard to find. The crazy camera movement, the stunts and special effects, the visual effects that happen in real time.
“It takes a lot of coordination, there are hundreds and hundreds of people on set, and it’s a powerful thing to be part of all those people working towards one goal. The people who do the visual effects are artists.”
As the conversation turned to the recent wave of “superhero fatigue,” Olsen didn’t hesitate to defend the genre and the craftsmanship behind each project.
“The soul, the spirit, the heart comes true in doing it. It means something. I care about the acting being great, everyone does it,” he explained. “There are hundreds of people doing their jobs to the highest degree.
“That’s why it’s frustrating for them not to be recognized for the artistic talent involved. There’s a lot that happens in visual effects afterwards, because we can’t really fly, you know?”
It’s clear that Olsen has a deep respect for the collaborative effort that goes into making these films, and his passion for Wanda Maximoff has not faded. While Marvel fans eagerly await any confirmation of her next appearance, the studio has been teasing Wanda’s return on social media, perhaps hinting at VisionQuest.
We’ll just have to wait and see what happened with Scarlet Witch’s future, but it’s likely she’ll return.
