Jeremy Renner Takes on Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and His Return to Marvel

It turns out that Dr. Jeremy Renner I had no idea that Robert Downey Jr. was supposed to play Doctor Doom in the MCU. Although they are close friends, Downey Jr. hasn’t said anything to anyone in the Marvel friend group about his return for Avengers: Judgment Day AND Avengers: Secret Wars.

During a recent interview with US Weekly, Renner said he was taken aback by the announcement, saying, “No! I had no idea. That son of a bitch didn’t tell me anything. We’re good friends.

“There’s the Avengers family chat. The original six. He didn’t say anything. I went online and started blowing up his phone as if to say, ‘What’s going on? Have you been hiding this from us this whole time?’

“This is exciting news. I’m really, really excited.”

There are a lot of fans who are excited about it too, but there are also a lot of people who aren’t too sure because it’s confusing for some. The thing is, I’m sure directors Joe and Anthony Russo found a great way to tell this story and make sense of its casting.

Renner then spoke about his future in the MCU and the possibility of him returning for the next two Marvel films and facing off against Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

The actor said: “You’ve brought Downey back into the fold, you’ve brought the Russo brothers back into the fold. This is a direction that Marvel will do well in.

“The Avengers movies have always been fan favorites and there are so many wonderful characters in them. It’s going to be a challenge to bring everyone together. But I’m excited about it.

“We’ll see. I think we probably will. It’s all brand new. They just made the announcement. They need to start figuring it out.”
