The big Marvel news to come out of Comic-Con last weekend was that Jupiter AND Anthony Russo they are returning to direct Avengers: Judgment Day AND Avengers: Secret Wars and that Robert Downey Jr. would play the villain Doctor Doom.

As you can imagine, bringing back these top-tier talents won’t be cheap for Marvel and Disney, and the talents will be paid huge amounts!

According to Variety, Marvel is shelling out $80 million for Anthony and Joe Russo to direct Avengers: Judgment Day AND Avengers: Secret Wars and “significantly more” for Downey to play Doom in the two epic films.

It is explained that the Russos’ agreement does not include additional compensation, but provides for performance incentives that kick in when they reach the thresholds of $750 million and $1 billion.

The Russo brothers will also produce both films through their production company AGBO, which is a first for Marvel Studios, which does not collaborate with outside producers and prefers to keep the team in-house.

As for Downey Jr., his deal is also packed with all sorts of perks, including private jet travel, dedicated security, and a whole “trailer camp.” You know, all sorts of very important things that rich people need in their lives. It’s so ridiculous.

Downey Jr. also said he would only return if Joe and Anthony Russo directed the Avengers films. An inside source said, “They were the only ones he would work with.”

The report goes on to say that Downey Jr. is “by far the highest paid member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and has earned between $500 million and $600 million over the course of four Avengers film, three Iron Man exits and cameos in The Incredible Hulk, Captain America Civil War AND Spider-Man: Homecoming.

While it’s great and interesting that this talented team is coming together, it also shows how desperate Marvel is right now. They’ve had a tough time in recent years, so they’re going back to the familiar talent that has previously produced hits and hoping their investment pays off.

What do you think about how much Disney and Marvel are paying the Russo brothers and Downey Jr.? Is it worth it?
