I was shared a fantastic trailer for the documentary The Black Geek Documentary – A Love Letter to Blerd CultureThe film was directed by Brandon Robinson, the championwho previously directed episodes of Harley Quinnas well as the feature The training roomand the podcast series Enhanced ImaginationThe document was written by Demetrius Strong, Ron CegersAND Rudy Strong of The Geekset Podcast, of which he also stars.
“The Black Geek Documentary is a full-length documentary that will focus on the history of the Blerds and the changing perspective created by Hollywood and the media. Curated and narrated by Geekset, the only place that fuses hip-hop culture and geek culture together in one place.”
“Not only have we lived within this culture since its inception, but over the past 6 years we have been curating, talking about, amplifying, and adding to the culture in many ways, from podcasting, to interviewing our heroes, to covering conventions and news, and just being there to support other creators, Blerds, writers, editors, animators, filmmakers, etc. We would love the opportunity to continue our work at scale and present something to the culture, via the culture.”
This looks like a great documentary with some great contributors and contributors. The project is seeking backers and hopes to reach its goal by August 29th. Check out the Kickstarter here to help out and watch the trailer below. I hope this documentary gets made! There’s a lot of passion behind it and a unifying message for the black nerd community.
