A new study published in the journal Intelligence found that cognitive abilities improve most between ages 55 and 60.

As we age, the human body naturally wears out. But a new study has found that even if you’re over 50, you haven’t yet reached the peak of your cognitive ability. It is believed that we reach the peak of fitness between the ages of 20 and 30, and the peak of happiness between the ages of 20 and 30 or after retirement. But our psychological peak is a completely different matter.
Researchers analyzed age trends in nine measures associated with life success. These were cognitive ability, personality traits, emotional intelligence, financial literacy, moral judgment, resistance to sunk cost effects, cognitive flexibility, cognitive empathy, and need for cognition.
Conscientiousness peaks around age 65, and emotional stability peaks around age 75, the researchers found. So, while youth has its advantages, it can be argued that maturity provides a broader and more powerful set of tools for solving complex problems and handling responsibilities.
By the way, material was recently published about how life after 60 is just beginning.
