The stars of the series Norman Reedus, Melissa McBrideAND Louis Puech Scigliuzziexecutive producer Greg Nicoteroand showrunner David Zabel appeared at the panel in Hall H to share the footage and announce the new series.

Dan McDermottAMC Studios, president of entertainment for AMC Networks, said in a statement: “We are so proud of these shows and incredibly grateful for the way this new chapter in The Walking Dead universe has been received by fans.

“Sending Daryl, and then Carol, to France was such an inspired and visually stunning move for this franchise, an opportunity to do something truly different. We can’t wait to continue the travels of this iconic duo with a third season produced and set in Spain, another beautiful country with a passionate TWD fanbase that is already buzzing with anticipation.”

In a statement released after the Comic-Con panel, Reedus said: “I couldn’t be more excited to announce a third season and to work side by side with the brilliant Melissa McBride. Season 2 is one of my favorites in terms of the storytelling of this series.

“Seeing Melissa shine alongside our brilliant cast and crew has been one of my fondest memories playing this character. I hope you enjoy it as much as we enjoyed making it, and we can’t wait to continue the story.”

McBride added: “I really appreciate the new challenges that Daryl and Carol have to face, being so far away from everything they’ve ever known… what it means to them, what it brings to each of them, separately and together.

“There’s still so much to discover in France for the upcoming second season, and a breathtaking finale. And now Spain! I already know that David Zabel’s storytelling is making the most of everything that is so beautiful and unique about Spain. We start filming there in a few weeks… how exciting, I can’t wait!”

Gimple said: “France turned Daryl and Carol’s story into an epic with what we found there. What’s to come in Spain may even surpass it, and we’re so damn excited to bring audiences more Terrific Two, along with compelling new characters, in a previously unseen, beautiful and horrifying corner of their broken world.”

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 2 will debut on AMC on September 29.
