Marvel Studios took their time getting their Lama film project. They worked on it for years and it was frustrating for the people involved and the fans.
One thing we know for sure about the film, aside from Mahershala Ali is tied to star in it, is that it will be rated R. President of Marvel Kevin Feige recently spoke to BlackTree TV about the valuation, saying:
“Over the last few years, as we were trying to make that movie, the most important thing for us was not to rush it. And to make sure we were making the right Blade movie.
“There were some great Blade movies years ago… they were all R-rated. So I think it’s inherent, like Deadpool, in the character of Blade.”
As for why the film has taken so long to develop, Feige compared the delays to Deadpool and Wolverine, saying they’re just waiting for “the magic thing to fall into place.” He told CinemaBlend:
“It’s part of the process. And when you have a character as famous as Blade and an actor as famous as Mahershala, everything that happens gets a lot of attention.
“I’m sure you’ve heard us talk about how we were struggling to find the perfect reason for Deadpool to exist, for the third Deadpool movie in the MCU, and then Hugh Jackman called, and everything fell into place.
“Sometimes you need that magical thing to just click into place. And sometimes it happens: Sometimes it takes a day. Sometimes it takes two years. Sometimes it takes 10 years. But that’s what you really should wait for, until you create something.”
It was previously reported that Yann Demange he abandoned the direction of the film. Eric Pearson is writing the last draft of the script after Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Handsome DeMayo, Michael Starbury, Nic PizzolatoAND Michael Green everyone tried to write the screenplay.
Marvel believes that “getting Lama “the right is much more important than getting the movie out,” and that “the pressure to produce as much content as possible has been eased,” and the studio now has “some breathing room.”
It was also previously reported that Marvel was looking to take “a darker tone with this film than other past MCU projects.”
I’m sure everything will fall into place for this film eventually, but without a director currently in play, that won’t happen any time soon. I think we’ll have to wait a few more years before we finally see Lama in the cinemas.
