Marvel President Kevin Feige Explains Why Spoilers Don’t Always Ruin a Movie

This week, Deadpool and Wolverine is coming to theaters and fans are excited. We’ve been waiting a long time for this film, the only MCU release of the year and one that looks like it could be a game-changer for the studio.

It teased a lot of surprises and characters, and it looks like we could really get a little something extra as the film delves into the multiverse.

So fans are feeling pressured to see the film quickly to avoid spoiling the surprises. But Marvel president Kevin Feige has a theory that spoilers don’t actually ruin a movie.

He explained in a recent interview with ComingSoon: “It’s very difficult [to keep secrets] and it’s almost impossible nowadays. And I think I realized a long time ago that it’s great to keep secrets.

“And the only reason we want to keep secrets is to keep surprises. So that an audience, that theater full of people, can find out things for the first time and have that adrenaline rush of a surprise for the first time.

“But what I’ve learned is that if the moment works in the movie, and if you’ve earned it for a minute, that once the lights go out in the theater, it’s a blank slate, and people have read things online or made predictions or read rumors, most of that disappears for most viewers when the lights go out, and they experience it in a new way.

“And if the movie works, and if those moments work, they will. It’s probably always better if it’s a surprise, but they’ll work 99% of the time even if they’re well-crafted in a cinematic moment. That’s what makes me feel better when things get spoiled.”

I see what you mean. I would still like to see the movie in the theater, even knowing some of the surprises, but I really have a feeling that I will enjoy going there more without knowing!

That’s why we bought tickets in advance, so we could attend one of the first shows, surrounded by fans, and see everything together for the first time, as expected.

I hope no one spoils the fun secrets of the movie and that it is as awesome as we all expected.
