It’s pretty cool that Hugh Jackman he returned to play a new version of Wolverine in Deadpool and Wolverineand while there has been talk of the actor continuing his run in other projects, Kevin Feige confirms that Jackman will ultimately be replaced by another actor.
During a recent interview with Discussing Film, Feige was asked if Jackman would be replaced by a new actor, to which he replied, “Yes. You know, Marvel is celebrating its 85th anniversary later this summer. It’s just the first 85 years, and Disney just celebrated 100 years, too.”
He goes on to say that when it does happen, it will be a very different interpretation of the character: “I think these characters will be around for another 100 years, long after all of us. So, for sure, there will be [eventually another actor as Wolverine]I think it will be in a very different style and way.
Feige then says that it would be a mistake for any potential actor to try to imitate what Jackman has done with the character: “I also think if someone tried to do an imitation of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, that would be a huge mistake.”
There are no “immediate plans” to replace Jackman, but it’s something that will happen sooner or later, when, I imagine, Jackman decides to retire from the character again.
One thing we know for sure is that Jackman will be around for at least one more film. It could be Avengers: Secret Warsbut we’ll just have to wait and see.
When the time comes for a new actor to play the role of Wolverine, which actor would you like to see?
