David Duchovny recently reflected on his time starring in the hit sci-fi series The X-Filesand how the creator of the show, Chris Carterhe was “almost clairvoyant” in how he saw where the conspiracy culture was going.
Speaking about this, the actor explained: “The way Mulder looked at the world was through conspiracy and that was the fringe at that point. It doesn’t seem to be that fringe anymore. It’s really the world that Chris Carter predicted would happen almost 30 years ago.”
As for some of the conspiracies spreading via social media, Duchovny doesn’t believe them.
He goes on to say that he thinks conspiracies are “mostly just lazy thinking”, I understand that a lot of conspiracies out there are ridiculous, but at the same time, there were a lot of conspiracies exposed in The X-Files which actually turned out to be true.
It’s kind of crazy to go back and watch the show now, because as you watch it you see all the things that have actually been revealed and proven true since it ended.
He also explains that he is nothing like Agent Mulder. When asked, he said, “Not at all. I’m an artist, I’m associational, and I see poetry as science and science as poetry.”
This is definitely something an artist would say.
I have no idea if we’ll ever see Duchovny back as Fox Mulder, but the actor has previously stated that he’s always up for more!
He said: “I thought the first seven years were enough! But I’m always ready for more, obviously. Someone sent me a clip of Joel McHale from the 2016 episodes we made and it’s a perfect description of where we are six years later.
“I do not believe [X-Files creator] Chris Carter gets enough credit for being [prescient]. Forget about the plot details and who gets pregnant or who gets shot. I mean, every show turns into a soap opera, so you have limited options. People are going to die or get pregnant or go to prison, right? Or become president.
“I think it’s a little bit out of place to worry about characters’ fat, when you realize that Chris somehow made a show in 1993, and again in 2016, that predicted what 2022 would be like. If he wanted to do more, I would definitely listen to him.
“I’d say, ‘What’s wrong with you?’ Because I want to know the future too, you know what I mean? And don’t put Gillian down. [Anderson]Scully’s feelings about the pregnancy or the character. I definitely had doubts about my character throughout the series.
“It’s the nature of a long-form thing. But to take a long-term view, what the show is able to embrace thematically is really the key to its longevity, and if we were to do it again, it’s just a matter of, ‘What have we done? [sic] to say?'”
When previously there was talk of the possibility of more File X Carter said: “I think that certainly The X-Files It has more life to it, there are more stories to tell, with or without Gillian. I’m sad to see her go, I never thought about doing this show without her, so is this the end?
“It’s the end of something, I don’t know if it’s the beginning of something new. But certainly, we’re all going to have to put our heads together and figure out where to go from here.”
At the moment, Ryan Coogler is developing a renaissance of The X-Filesand we can only wait and see what comes of it.
