Noah Hawley’S Alien series, which was created by FX, has completed production, and the official title has been revealed. That title is Alien: Earth.
The news was given by the producer John Langraf and Hawley, who is the showrunner, told Variety, “We just wrapped production, so now I have to do the long post-production thing that’s all about the visual effects.”
He continued to tease, “It’s a very big show. It’s nice to have some time with it. The first year of anything, you want to feel like you’re not up against a wall in terms of time.
“I watched four of the eight hours of the director’s cut and engaged in the process of figuring out, cinematically, what it wanted to be. It’s one of my favorite parts of making a show.”
Langraf continued to share his thoughts on the series saying, “We’re pretty optimistic about Alien: Earth and we told him that assuming, as we hope, Alien: Earth it’s a returning TV series, we want it to focus on writing at least two seasons before returning to a possible sixth season of Fargo.”
The story is set three decades before the events of by Ridley Scott 1979 classic Alien and a few years before PrometheusThe series will see the characters “caught in a conflict between the dawn of artificial intelligence and the competition between developers and users.”
Hawley previously said of the story: “It’s set on a future Earth. Right now, I describe it as Edison versus Westinghouse versus Tesla. Somebody’s going to monopolize electricity. We just don’t know which one.”
He continued: “In the movies, we have this Weyland-Yutani Corporation, which is clearly also developing artificial intelligence, but what if there were other companies trying to look at immortality in a different way, with cyborg augmentations or transhuman downloads? Which of these technologies is going to win?”
This will be the first Alien project set on Earth and will combine “the timeless horror of the first Alien film with the non-stop action of the second, it will be a thrilling and terrifying journey that will keep everyone glued to the screen.”
Hawley also spoke about the project, saying: “It’s about how we’re caught between the primordial past and the artificial intelligence of our future, where both [are] trying to kill us.
“It’s set on a future Earth. Right now, I describe it as Edison versus Westinghouse versus Tesla. Someone’s going to monopolize the electricity. We just don’t know which one.”
He continued, “I thought it would be interesting to open it up a little bit so that the stakes of ‘What if you can’t contain it?’ are more immediate.”
The show also features the participation of Patricia of Sydney, Alex Lawther (The end of the fucking world) as the male protagonist, a soldier named CJ, with Samuel Blenkin (Black Mirror) as another main character named Boy Kavalier, a CEO. Other cast members include Essie Davis (The Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries) like Lady Silvia, Timothy OliphantAND Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger) as Lightly.
