James GunnThe DCU will start with the Commando Creatures animated series, and this series will set the tone for the future of the DC franchise.
Producer Principal Lorey recently spoke about the series and said that fans will be “really encouraged” by the tone it sets for the rest of the franchise.
Lorey told The Wrap, “That will be James Gunn’s first expression of the DC Universe. We’re looking at that canon and I think it expresses his perspective, tonally, on where he wants the universe to go.”
“His Suicide Squad. It did. People won’t be surprised by what it is, but I think they’ll be really encouraged to see how completely it informs this new version of the DCU, which I’m very excited about.”
Gunn previously said: “The new series picks up immediately after the season one finale of Peacemaker, which left Waller with her hands tied operationally, meaning she can no longer afford to risk lives to carry out her morally questionable clandestine missions.
“Instead, he recruits a motley crew of misfits, not unlike the Suicide Squad and the Peacemaker.”
The director continued by saying that the Commando Creatures roster is made up of “literal monsters, and I can’t wait for you to meet them. Creating this series has been one of the absolute joys of my life.”
The team consists of a human, a werewolf, a vampire, Frankenstein’s monster and a gorgon. The voice cast includes David Port like Eric Frankenstein, Sean Gunn like Weasel and GI Robot, Frank Grillo like Rick Flag Sr., Maria Bakalova like Princess Ilana Rostovic, Indira Varma like The Bride, Zoe Cao like Nina Mazursky, Alan Tudyk like Dr. Phosphorus, with Steve Ague reprising his role as John Economos from Peacemaker.
Commando Creatures will debut on Max in December 2024.
