Netflix has released the first trailer for Unsolved Mysteries Volume 4, and the new season will only be five episodes. Remember when the original series had more than 30 episodes in a season!?
Netflix shared: “The iconic and gripping series returns, complete with more unexplained deaths, shocking disappearances and bizarre paranormal activity.”
Co-creator and executive producer Terry Dunn Meurer said in a new statement: “This is our most unique volume yet. From one of the most notorious unsolved cases of all time to entirely new and mind-bending mysteries, there’s something for everyone to solve.”
Executive producer Shawn Levy adds: “Unsolved Mysteries continues to engage viewers in ways we never imagined, with some episodes leading to the resolution of cases once thought unsolvable.
“It’s a privilege to collaborate with Terry Dunn Meurer and his team on this iconic franchise, and we’re so excited to share this next installment of gripping and fascinating mysteries with viewers around the world.”
There are currently 21 episodes of the revival series available on Netflix, which deals with everything from murders to disappearances, hauntings to ghosts and, of course, UFO sightings.
The reboot of the series is presented in documentary style, without a host or narrator, and encourages viewers to help solve the mysteries.
Producer Terry Dunn Meurer previously spoke about the series, saying, “I would say there are a lot more people who are getting more deeply involved in some of these cases. With the Netflix series, we know there are a lot of viewers who are diving deep and going on social media.
“I think, just like the podcast, people want to know more, and so now they have the opportunity to learn more. So when they have the opportunity to learn more, they dig deeper and then they come up with their own theories and then they communicate with other people who are interested in that particular case.
“I just think there’s more communication than there used to be. When we were just on NBC, the show would air once. You couldn’t go back, look at a clue, you couldn’t look at anything.
“The next time you would have seen that episode would have been if it had been rerun in the summer. Now you can watch all the old shows, they’re streaming on different platforms. So it’s changed.”
He added: “There would be the stories that you would talk about the next day, but you couldn’t delve into the research and the details and see what else you could find out.
“People are just more engaged, and I think the more people are engaged in trying to solve mysteries and look into these cases, I think it just creates more interest in them, it fuels the beast. A lot of people are like, ‘Oh, God, let’s give the viewers out there what they’re looking for.
“Let’s give them more true crime.” But we don’t think of ourselves as, I mean, yes, we write crime stories, sure, but we think of ourselves as a mystery story.”
The series will debut on July 31.
