Steve Carell Funnily Roasts Marvel and DC in New Despicable Me 4 “Megaverse” Promo Video

Here’s a fun new promotional video for Despicable Me 4 what features Steve Carell talking about the Mega Minions, or a team of five Minions “with incredible power” and “zero responsibility”.

Carrell continues to joke about superhero movies by introducing Illumination’s “Megaverse,” which is obviously inspired by what Marvel Studios and DC Studios have done with their superhero franchises.

Carrell says there will be “50 interconnected Mega Minions stories” and features a graphic behind him showing a schedule of movies and TV shows that will be released over the “next 100 years.”

This is an over exaggeration of a thing Kevin Feige does for Marvel every time they announce a new movie line-up.

Some of the fake titles include Mega Minions: Despicable Me in Denver and Mega Minions: Electric Gru-Galoo. The ad ends with the EnterTheMegaverse.com website directing you to purchase tickets for Despicable Me 4.

The video’s caption also reads, “The hierarchy of power in the Enlightenment universe is about to change.” This is obviously a jab at Dwayne Johnson’s DC film Black Adam.

This new chapter focuses on Gru (Steve Carrell) and Lucia (Kristen Wiig) and their girls, Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier) and Agnese (Madison Pollan)” as they welcome a new member to the Gru family, Gru Jr., who is intent on tormenting his father.

Gru faces a new nemesis in Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina (Sofia Vergara), and the family is forced to flee.”

The film also introduces new characters voiced by Joey King, Stefano ColbertAND Chloe Fineman.

The screenplay of the new film is written by Mike White (School of rock, The White Lotus) and franchising director Chris Renaud (The Secret Life of Pets 2) returns to lead the franchise after being away from it for a decade. He was the last to steer despicable Me 2and this time he shares the directing duties Patrick Delage in his directorial debut.

Despicable Me 4 will premiere in theaters on July 3, 2024.
