Neve Campbell is set to return to the Scream franchise in a big way with the next film in the series, Scream VIIwhich is directed by the creator of the franchise Kevin Williamson.
Campbell was absent Scream VI because she felt disrespected for the offer the firm had made her. She explained that as a “matter of principle” she rejected the offer.
Now that has changed, and Campbell says she’s “really grateful that they came back to me in a respectful way.”
As I witnessed the return of Reefer Madness: The Musical in Los Angeles on May 30, the actress spoke about the franchise and how “those movies have been such a big part of my life and mean so much to me, and I was sad to miss the last one, to not be a part its.”
She continued, “I was really grateful that they got back to me in a respectful way. I think this means a lot for women and for society. I’m grateful to be able to step into Sidney’s shoes again and tell his story.”
Campbell also spoke about his character, Sidney Prescott, saying he has “inspired a lot of people. I meet many fans who say that his strength has helped them get through difficult times, and for some people it means more than I could have ever imagined.
When she shared that she would be returning for Scream VII, she excitedly said, “Hi everyone. I am so excited to announce this news!!! Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!! It’s always been a blast and an honor to play Sidney in the Scream films.
“My appreciation for these films and what they meant to me has never wavered. I am very happy and proud to say that I have been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!! Well, actually I could.
“While I have been incredibly fortunate to make these films with both horror master Wes Craven and the talented team of Matt and Tyler, I have dreamed for many years how amazing it would be to make one of these films with Kevin Williamson at the helm. And now it’s happening, Kevin Williamson is directing Scream 7!
“This was his baby and it is his brilliant mind that dreamed of this world. Kevin is not only an inspiration as an artist, but he has been a dear friend for many years. To the amazing Scream fans, I hope you are as excited as I am. See you on set @kevwilliamson.
