With Peacemaker Season 2 has finally ended, James Gunn he’s catching his breath, but not for long. The director, who is juggling his role as co-head of DC Studios while shaping the future of the DCU, plans to get behind the camera a few more times.
Gunn confirmed during a recent Peacemaker Season 2 press conference where he says his run directing the DCU isn’t over yet. When asked if he plans to direct again, he said:
“There is a plan that I will do at least a couple more.”
Back when Gunn and Peter Safran revealed their huge plan for the DC Universe in 2022, Gunn revealed that he would write and direct Supermanwhich he developed together Peacemaker Season 2.
Since then, his attention has largely remained on that film and his leadership duties at the studio. But it seems that the creative desire to direct has not disappeared.
He didn’t reveal what projects those “other couples” might be, but it’s safe to assume that one of them is the Superman sequel, The man of tomorrow. Gunn clearly wants to personally shape the tone and heart of this universe.
As for what else he might face, no one knows. Maybe he’ll dive into something related to the Bat-family, or maybe he’ll dig out of the darkest corners of DC, a move he’s famous for. But Gunn also seems content to let other directors take the reins of many of the projects already announced.
Of course, there is always the possibility that exhaustion could prevail. Gunn joked:
“I might be so fucking tired that I can’t do it, because I’m pretty tired, but we’ll see.”
So while the DCU’s creative leader may be exhausted, it’s clear that his passion for storytelling hasn’t run dry just yet.
