Former Saturday night live castmates Kate McKinnon AND Andy Samberg are coming together to join the cast of Jay Roach’S The roseshero Olivia Colman AND Benedict Cumberbatch.
The cast was there too Ncuti Gatwa, Sunita Mani, Zoe Chao, Jamie Demetriou AND Belinda Bromilow. Written by Tony McNamara , The roses is a revisitation of the 1989 classic The War of the Rosesbased on the novel by Warren Adler.
“The story revolves around Ivy (Colman) and Theo (Cumberbatch), the perfect couple who have successful careers, amazing children and an enviable sex life.
“But beneath the façade of the perfect family lies a powder keg of competition and resentment that ignites when Theo’s professional dreams crumble.”
Roach said of the project:
“When Searchlight sent me Tony McNamara’s script, I was skeptical, because I loved the original film. But as a fan of Tony’s darkly hilarious writing, and with Olivia and Benedict attached, I should have known he was going in a wonderful new direction. The addition of this phenomenal dream cast will make this relatable love/divorce story a wild cautionary tale.”
Matthew Greenfield, president of Searchlight Pictures, added:
“We feel so lucky to be working with this amazing and wonderfully hilarious group of actors. Jay has truly assembled an amazing cast to bring a modernist feel and contemporary relevance to this retelling.”
Production will begin this month. At the moment a release date has not yet been set.
