CEO of Sony Pictures Tony Vinciquerra shared that the studio will focus on using artificial intelligence to help them produce future films and TV shows.
There are a lot of people who are not fans of AI, but whether they like it or not, nothing will stop it or slow it down now that the ball is rolling. Artificial intelligence is the future, and Sony Pictures is already embracing it as it moves forward.
Vinciquerra recently spoke at an investor conference in Japan and told those in attendance that the studio is “very focused on artificial intelligence” to help reduce the costs of film production.
He said: “We will look for ways to use artificial intelligence to produce films for cinemas and television in more efficient ways, mainly using artificial intelligence.”
He added: “The agreements that have come out of last year’s strikes and the agreements that will come out of the IATSE and the Teamster [negotiations] it will roughly define what we will do with artificial intelligence.”
The biggest fear about AI in the industry is that tools like OpenAI’s “Sora” will take manpower away from crew members and other various talent in the movie-making process.
Sony isn’t the only studio that is incorporating artificial intelligence, and last year DreamWorks founder Jeffrey Katzenberg said that artificial intelligence would likely cut the costs of making an animated film by up to 90%, with only 50 artists needed to create them instead of AI. 500.
Exactly how Sony will use AI in the filmmaking process is yet to be seen, but one thing we can say for sure is that AI probably could have written a better script for Madame Web.
AI is evolving so fast right now and in five years it will be crazy to see what it is capable of. We live in a wild and crazy time, and it’s only going to get crazier!
