When Superman Leaving at the beginning of this month, James Gunn aroused interest when he revealed that there was a mural to look for in the Hall of Justice. It is a huge metauman mural, a vibrant showcase of the history of DC comics full of dark heroes, legends of the golden age and characters that we would never have been seen to refer to the big screen.
In a recent chat with IGN, Gunn revealed that at least two of the characters depicted on that wall will play a significant role in the DCU forward:
“Listen, fans have done a great job, I think they found all the different characters,” said Gunn. “But yes, I will only say that in one of our scripts we are working on two of those characters are a little important.”
That’s all. That’s all that would say, but for DC fans, it is enough to send the speculation machine in Overdrive.
The rupture of the mural has confirmed the apparitions of over two dozen characters who cross centuries of DC traditions. Here are some salient points:
-
Madame Xanadu – Founding member of the Demon Knights and former Protégé of Merlin.
-
Silent Knight-a medieval superhero of the 6th century England.
-
EXORISTOS – A Amazon exiled from Themycira, who precedes Wonder Woman herself.
-
Black Pirate-Us Vigilante of the 16th century who met his end in Opal City.
-
Miss Liberty – A heroine of the American Revolution.
-
Whip Whirlwind / Max Mercury – A Speedster that cannot completely access the force of speed, often bouncing over time. Max led legends like Jay Garrick, Wally West and impulse.
-
Super-CAPO: a pre-Columbian Inechese warrior with impact powers of meteorite.
-
EL DIABLO – A cursed cowboy that has gone through paths with Jonah Hex and Jason Blood.
-
Iron Munro-a post-Crisi on Infinite Earths Superman Stand-in for the stories of the era of the Second World War.
-
Sandman (Wesley Dodds)-the vigilante who wears the gas mask with a sleeping gas pistol.
-
Amazing Man (Will Everett) -a Olympian from the 1960s who became a meta-human.
-
Zatara – Legendary wizard and father of Zatanna.
-
Liberty Belle-A hero of the era of the Second World War with speed and strength that Johnny Quick later married.
-
Bulletman & Bulletgirl-criminalphalins that challenge gravity from the golden age.
-
TNT and Dan the Dyna-Condo-Ua teacher loaded positively and her explosive synergy partner.
-
Phantom Lady – Heroine of the Second World War with invisibility and powers of illusion.
-
Atomic Knight-a hero of the 1960s who operates in the “Post-Apocalyptic future of 1992.”
-
Freedom Beast-sustain African B’Wana Beast with powers that move animals.
-
Wildcat (Ted Grant) – Boxer of the heavyweights transformed into costume.
-
Atmosphere – Hero of the 80s with sound powers.
-
Dimfire – A hero of the 90s that transforms any object into an energy weapon.
-
Maxwell Lord – Already seen in Superman, with Firestorm’s matrix in the mural.
It is a deep -cut DC history formation right there.
Gunn confirmed that these two mysterious characters are linked to the same imminent project, but did not say if that project is a film, a series of live actions or an animated show.
Of course, fans are already putting the clues together:
-
Exoristos feels like a strong candidate for Paradise Lost, the prequel series focused on Amazon set in Themysira. Like an ancient Amazon warrior, it adapts perfectly to that mythological setting.
-
Max Mercury is another extraordinary. Not only does it appear twice on the mural (as both Max Mercury and his Whip Whip Whipwind), but his tradition of Speedster to jump over time could easily tie to the flash or in a project focused on speed.
-
Then there is Maxwell Lord, already played by Sean Gunn in Superman. He is in his hand the Firestorm matrix in the mural, which could mean an international project of the Justice League, or even something related to the storm.
But Gunn is not giving anything. He left the fans with a last mockery:
“In one of our scripts we are working on two of those characters are a little important.”
That’s all. Two characters. A script. Infinite speculation.
What do you think? What two heroes do you think they will present themselves first and in which project? Drop your theories below!
