The last of us AND game of Thrones star Beautiful Ramsey is set to take on the role of a British terrorist in a new film project titled Girl next door.
Ramsey will play Sherafiyah Lewthwaite, also known as the White Widow. She is one of the most wanted terrorism suspects in the West.
The film is inspired by the true story of “a 21-year-old suburban mother of two who became radicalized. Lewthwaite, the widow of a 7/7 London terror bomber, is accused of causing the deaths of more than 400 people. She is a fugitive in Kenya, where she is wanted on charges of possession of explosives.”
The film project comes from the writer and director Bruce Goodison (Black taxi), who said in a statement: “This film is about a life-affirming, idealistic young man with a broken heart.
“Sam turns his pain into a strength that was then exploited by men for the purposes of global terror. I simply didn’t believe all of this: was Sam really the terrorist mastermind that the press and the counter-terrorism police wanted us to believe, or was there another truth? The truth about him.
He added: “I wrote a disturbing mystery that asks how it might feel if the person you love and expect to share a life with one day goes out and commits an act of terror that challenges everything you hold dear.
“Sam embarks on an odyssey that both consumes and alters her. She gradually becomes isolated and radicalized and one could argue that this is due to the fact that she was rejected by us.
“Much of my work is research-based and in preparation for this film I had access to Sam’s personal diary which he began writing after the attack, I spoke to members of his family and the ‘adoptive’ family who she inspired her Muslim conversion, Nikki, the other woman, ‘Sheikh’ Faisal, the security services and the Sun journalist to whom she had reported Germaine’s actions.
“The film is unapologetically set from Sam’s point of view – whoever plays Sam has to be brave. Bella Ramsey is the perfect fit. Bella will bring heart, life and complexity to this role.”
It seems like a challenging role for any actor to play and I’m sure Ramsey will deliver a solid performance. Filming of the project is scheduled for October 2024.
