Patton Oswalt Says STAR WARS: THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT Synchronized a Scene to Match a PARKS AND REC Scene

Comedian and actor Patton Oswalt confirmed a very interesting connection between the recent series and the Easter Egg Star Wars: The Book of Boba Fettand the classic fan-favorite series Parks and Recreation.

In 2013, Oswalt appeared in an episode of the fifth season of Parks and recreation titled “Article Two,” where he played a character named Garth Blundon, who stonewalls by describing how he thinks Marvel and Star Wars the universes could merge now that they were both owned by Disney.

In the speech, improvised by Oswalt, Garth describes Boba Fett emerging from the Sarlacc pit. He also talks about Thanos using the Infinity Gauntlet and explains how it could be used to make the two universes crossover.

Of course, the Infinity Gauntlet ended up becoming a major part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Thanos used it to turn half the universe into dust. Avengers: Infinity War in 2018.

In 2021, The Boba Fett book was released and featured the iconic bounty hunter on the run from the Sarlacc. During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live (via CB), Oswalt talked about how some of his predictions came true.

“This is how the scene was supposed to be [that] I announce that I’m going to do this stonewalling and then they cut to Amy’s character, Leslie, who just says, “Oh dear God,” and that would be the joke. And then the directors and the writers said, “Let’s not shout, let’s cut away and just see how much she’ll talk.” [Marvel] he hadn’t done Guardians of the Galaxy. When I say “Time Gem” [one of the Infinity Stones], they cut to Chris Pratt. This was way before she made Guardians… Also, Amy has the funniest line of the whole thing when she says that the female part is a little underwritten, which was just what those movies were.

He then went on to confirm:

“When The Book of Boba Fett came out, Jessica Fisher Jon Favreau confirmed it to me, they cut the opening shot to fit my stonewalling. You can synchronize them based on time… [it] comes down from the twin suns, the hand comes out of the sand, you can match it with my stonewalling. They did it on purpose.”

It’s really cool that Oswalt was so in tune with what the MCU had planned at the time. And it’s funny that Favreau took note of that scene and made it even more real.
