Not long after this was revealed Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire director Adam Wingard he won’t be returning to direct the next Godzilla film, it’s been reported that Marvel is keeping an eye on him for Spider-Man 4.
This news comes from insider scooper @MyTimeToShineH, and while Wingard’s name may have been mentioned as a possibility, I don’t think it will happen.
Wingard has a few other films in development right now, including a ThunderCats film, an adaptation of Metal Gear Solidand an action film titled Assault, which is rumored to be his next film. That movie will be shot in the fall, which would put it out of action.
He is also actively working on his ThunderCats project and offered an update on that, saying: “Simon [Barrett] and I’m still actively working on the script. We finished our last draft pretty much right as I was going into production [Godzilla x Kong] and we had to stop everything. [But] We are currently actively working on it again.”
He went on to say that ThunderCats is one of his top priorities. But we’ll see what happens! We’ll see how this all pans out.
I’m not a fan of Wingard’s Godzilla and Kong films, so I’d like to see him make a film outside of that franchise. He’s made some solid films before that, so I hope that as he continues making films, he’s able to develop strong stories.
Other directors said to be on the list include Drew Goddard (Hut in the woods), Sam Raimi (Spiderman), Justin Lin (Fast and furious franchising), James Wan (Aquaman), John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein (Dungeons & Dragons), Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah (Batgirl, Lady Marvel) and highly unlikely Jon Favreau (Iron Man).
