Sony Pictures seems pretty confident in their next R-rated Marvel movie Kraven the Hunterwhat stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
The film was originally scheduled for release on January 13, 2023, was later pushed to October 6, and then pushed back to August 30, 2024. Kraven the Hunter it was then postponed to December 13th.
So why did the studio delay the film until December? Producer Matt Tolmach he said it’s because it will be released during a time when audiences will have time to go to the movies again and again. Yes, they think people will spend their holiday time watching Kravan multiple times.
Tolmach told Collider in an interview: “Kraven moved to Christmas because we’re excited about it and Christmas is the best release period there is, when you get people time to come back to the cinema again and again.”
He added: “It was a real reflection of how the studio felt about the film. We are really excited. But it’s a great move that really reflects the feeling of the film.”
What they fail to understand is that going to the movies is expensive right now, and it costs people a lot of money to go to the movies again and again. This is also the time of year when people already spend a lot of money on gifts and trips.
Plus, holidays are busy and there’s a lot of time to spend with family. As for me, I’m lucky if I go out to see a movie during the holidays! There is so much to do! Watching a movie in theaters multiple times in theaters during this time of year isn’t going to happen.
I will say that this movie looks better than the other non-Spider-Man Marvel movies Sony has released, but we’ll just have to wait and see why Sony doesn’t have the best track record with these movies. They seem excited, though!
The film is described as “the visceral story of how and why one of Marvel’s most iconic villains came to be.”
The story is also said to be set “before his infamous revenge with Spider-Man”, which means that this movie could actually lead to the character facing Spider-Man, which makes me happy because that’s what I want to see!
In Kraven the Hunter, Russian immigrant Sergei Kravinoff is on a mission to prove himself as the world’s greatest hunter. Taylor-Johnson called the project “a Marvel film strongly anchored in the real world. We know that he is a ferocious hunter, a highly trained killer.” He enthusiastically proclaimed, “Fuck yes, it will be rated R!”
JC Chandor he is directing the film from a screenplay by Art Marco AND Matt Holloway (Iron Man), and is also the protagonist Ariana De Bose like Calypso, Russell Crowe as Nikolai Kravinoff, Fred Hechinger like a chameleon, Alessandro Nivola like a bad stranger, Levi Miller, AND Take the 22nd star Christopher Abbott as the main villain, The Foreigner.
Kraven the Hunter arrives in theaters on October 6, 2023.
