Prime Video has been renewed Mr. and Mrs. Smith for a second season, but also includes some interesting details like the stars of the first season Donald Glover AND Maya Erskine he is not expected to return to acting in the second season.
Glover is still credited as co-creator and executive producer of the series Francesca Sloanewho will return as showrunner.
Glover recently announced that he’ll be doing a world tour as Childish Gambino starting in August until February 2025, so he’ll be pretty busy. He is also developing a few other projects, including the Lando movie, at Lucasfilm.
But, given how the first season ended, I guess it’s not surprising that Glover and Erskine didn’t return for a second season. It looks like this is being set up as an anthology series and will focus on a new couple.

The season one description reads: “In the first season of ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” two lonely strangers find work for a mysterious spy agency that offers them a glorious life of espionage, wealth, world travel, and a dream house in Manhattan.
“The catch? New identities in an arranged marriage as Mr. and Mrs. John and Jane Smith. Now that they’re married, John and Jane embark on a high-stakes mission each week while also facing a new milestone in their relationship.
“Their complex cover story becomes even more complicated when they discover real feelings for each other. What is riskier: espionage or marriage?”
