Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has grossed over $548 million so far since it hit theaters in March. With numbers like that, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are obviously excited to dive into the next movie, so I am.
The legendary took over Dave Callaham (Shang Chi) to write the screenplay for the next film in the Monsterverse series, and I suspect it won’t be any better than the previous films.
Obviously, there are no plot details to share, but I’m sure this will involve Godzilla fighting other massive kaiju creatures while the human characters run around with no real purpose spouting bad dialogue.
Adam Wingardwhich he directed Godzilla x Kong: The New Empireis expected to return for the next film, but that hasn’t been made official yet.
The director has previously spoken about wanting to close out a trilogy of films, saying: “The idea that if you’ve made two films, maybe, you should just go ahead and make a third because, as you said, there’s a trilogy in there.
“I definitely think there’s more story to this, and I think I have more story to tell. But it just depends on how [Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire] ago and how things are going.
He continued: “I know that sounds like a bullshit diplomatic response. But the truth is, if I’m being completely honest with you, I have more stories to tell with these monsters and I know where I could go next. I would be very excited to come back for another if things went well!”
Well, WB and Legendary have officially started developing the next film, but there has been no mention of whether Wingard will be a part of it or not.
