As tornadoes continue to truly devastate various parts of the United States, Universal Pictures has released a new trailer for the upcoming film Twisterwhich sees CGI tornadoes cause destruction and chaos.
The film is the sequel to the 1996 film Twistand is described as “a big-screen, adrenaline-fueled, gripping thrill ride that puts you in direct contact with one of nature’s most wondrous and destructive forces.”
Movie stars Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kate Cooper, “a former storm chaser haunted by a devastating encounter with a tornado during her college years who now studies storm patterns on screens in the safety of New York City. She is lured to the open plains by her friend Javi to test a revolutionary new tracking system.
This is where he meets Tyler Owens (Glen Powell), “the charming and reckless social media superstar who enjoys posting his storm-chasing adventures with his raucous crew, the more dangerous the better.”
The synopsis continues, “As storm season intensifies, terrifying phenomena never seen before are unleashed, and Kate, Tyler, and their competing teams find themselves directly in the path of multiple storm systems converging on central Oklahoma in the fight for their lives. “
Speaking previously about the film, writer Mark L. Smith said: “It’s a lot of fun. [Director Lee Isaac Chung] he did a little bit of his own work on the script because that’s what they do, so I don’t know exactly some of the changes.
“So I don’t know the details, but that’s a separate story. It is not a continuation of the original. But it’s just a really wild ride with some good, fun characters. Hopefully we can draw on what the original had because that thing is just iconic.
“But it’s great to have a director like Isaac tackle something like that. It’s just out of character for him and I think he’s enjoying it. I was texting him a couple of days ago, and it’s all crazy.”
Twister even stars Antonio Ramos (In the hills) in the role of Javi, alongside David Corenswet (Superman: Legacy), Brandon Perea (No), Sasha Lane (American honey), Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders), Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Nik Dodani (Atypical) AND Maura Tierney (Beautiful boy).
Twister will be released exclusively in theaters on July 19th.
