Man of Steel AND Batman vs. Superman director Zack Snyder talked about his original plans for Superman in the DCEU. He explains how he would have completed the Man of Steel arc in his discarded sequels.
GQ recently spoke with the director to discuss his film career and during the conversation, Snyder delved into his decision to end his Justice League cut with a glimpse into the future that reveals Superman eventually falling under Darkseid’s control.
It even returned to the DCEU’s “Knightmare” timeline, with Batman leading a team of heroes and villains plotting to take down Superman.
Speaking about Superman’s redemption arc, Snyder said, “He should have succumbed to Anti-Life, been destroyed, turned the clock back and then had his chance for this battle against Darkseid.”
“If you…” he continued, “that would have ended his trilogy of becoming this guardian and, in a way, brought him back to his humanity.”
It would have been really interesting to see Snyder tell his complete Superman story, but as you know, through a series of frustrating events, everything fell apart, and that’s something we’ll never see.
James Gunn and Peter Safran are now leading DC Studios and are rebooting the entire DC Cinematic Universe. While I’m curious what Snyder’s full plans were, I’m excited to see what Gunn has cooking up for him to watch!
What do you think about it!?
