Join a beloved franchise like Star Wars It is not as easy as it seems, also for expert veterans. For Katee SackhoffEntering the live armor of Bo-Katan Kryze The Mandalorian He proved to be one of the most emotionally difficult challenges of his actor career.
Despite having expressed the character in animation for years, Sackhoff recently revealed that the transition to the live-action version has shaken his trust in his nucleus.
The revelation came during a sincere conversation with her Battlestar Galactica co-protagonist Tahmoh penikett On his podcast, The Sackhoff Show. It was here that he dropped a surprising confession: he had to hire an acting coach for the first time ever. Penikett was amazed by the news, pushing Sackhoff to open up:
“What had happened was that I lost all my trust after the Mandalorian. Everything.”
For Sackhoff, his acting process had always been instinctive. He explained:
“My acting style has always been,” your first instinct is the right instinct, do it. Play the reality of the situation. “And I never played a character, do you know what I mean?
“For example, I have always played [characters who were] Two steps removed from me, in a certain sense. He has always felt rooted in a part of my belly of who I was. “
But Bo-Katan was different. Very far from the personality and the emotional nucleus of Sackhoff, the role presented an unknown struggle.
“Bo-katan is no part close to those who are as a human being. His life, what you want-like, I have not understood it. I mean, as far as I have understood, I have never heard it, in the stomach.
“I never identified myself with her. I didn’t know how to find her. And it broke me! I started doubting myself.
“I was not booking anything and for three years I didn’t work. He just destroyed my trust …”
Realizing that something had to change, Sackhoff made a fundamental decision to restore. He hired a new manager who connected it with an acting coach. Instead of teaching them how to act from scratch, the coach focused on helping her to reconnect with her basic skills and evolve them to face characters that seemed more foreign, like Bo-Katan.
Fortunately, it is now on the other side of that difficult chapter and feels revitalized. As Penikett said, he feels more similar to herself again and ready to go on.
Sackhoff is currently working on a mysterious role in the next first video video Carrie Adaptation of the series, which is now in production.
