TRON: ARES star Cameron Monaghan says the film will “bring forward what can be done visually”

The sequel Tron: Ares We’re still about a year and a half away from its theatrical release, but production is in full swing and the stars are Cameron Monaghan it’s hyping the movie. In a new interview, the actor said Collider during the Calgary Expo:

“I think this, in a very similar way, will really push forward what can be done, from a visual perspective. Sometimes I even came on days when I wasn’t working, because that set was really cool. A lot of the hands-on sets were really phenomenal and I would love to check those out too.”

Monaghan also remembered seeing the first one Tron protagonist of the film Jeff Bridgesoriginally released in 1982, on a plane when he was younger.

“I remember watching the original and thinking it was from the 90s or something, because it was really amazing how a movie from that era could look so amazing and use computers the way they did.”

He would later have the opportunity to attend the premiere of the film’s sequel, Tron: Legacyin 2010 which he starred in Garrett Hedlund AND Olivia Wilde.

Monaghan said this Tron: Legacy has grown “a cult fandom, similar to the original Tron it did as well, where people thought it was very interesting technologically but it continued to grow.”

He continued:

“The Legacy of Tron, which I just saw screened in 35MM at the New Beverly last year, and it really holds up, and it has that great Daft Punk soundtrack. So I like that those films have several years of separation between them. They don’t come out very often and every time they do they show a new era of technology and cinema.”

Monaghan stars Tron: Ares next to Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Arturo CastroAND Gillian Anderson. The film, directed by Joachim Rønningwill be released in theaters on October 10, 2025.
