First look at Zack Snyder’s animated series TWILIGHT OF THE GODS

Zack Snyder has shared the first image from his upcoming Netflix animated series Twilight of the Godsand offers a first look at the artistic style.

When the project was first announced it was said to be an anime series, but this style is not the style of anime. It’s more in line with the styles of projects like The Secret of Kells AND Wolf walkers.

The Netflix project was announced a couple of years ago and is a Norse mythology series that will tell a story of revenge.

Speaking about the story of the series, Snyder said: “It’s basically this: There’s a king and his queen in a little Viking village, and they want to get married. During their wedding an event happens to them that causes Sigrid, who is the bride-to-be, who is the son of the giants, embarks on a madcap mission of revenge.

“He enlists a cast of characters – a seer, a dwarf – and they come together to form a gang that has this mission: to find a god and fight him. It’s a mission, it’s a story of revenge.

“Sigrid is a beautiful character, very Scandinavian, cold but passionate, who I really enjoyed working with because she is really fantastic. Sylvia Hoeks voices her.”

Snyder also said the show will have “a lot of sex […] because it’s fun” and that the first season will consist of eight episodes.

Speaking of developing an animated series, Snyder didn’t realize how much of an undertaking it would be: “I just think it was one of those things where we didn’t understand, first of all, the rigor of what I wanted to make eight episodes of animated If I had known, I don’t know if I would have done it.”

The full voice cast for Twilight of the Gods includes Sylvia Hoeks in the role of Sigrid, Stuart Martino as Leif, Pilou Asbæk in the role of Thor, Giovanni Nobile like Odin, Paterson Joseph like Loki, Rahul Kohli in the role of Egill, Jamie Clayton like the Seid-Kona, Kristopher Hivju like Andvari, Pietro Stormare like Ulfr, Jamie Chung like Hel, Lauren Cohan like Inge, and Corey Stoll like Hrafnkel.

The series will be released next fall.
