Disney’s SPACE MOUNTAIN moves forward with two new writers

Several years ago it was announced that Disney Studios was developing a film based on the popular Disneyland attraction Space mountain. Obi-Wan Kenobi writer Joby Harold he was originally hired to write the screenplay.

There has been no update on the project since that first initial report, but the project is still in development and two new writers have been hired to work on the script.

Josh Appelbaum AND André Nemec are now working on the screenplay and are best known for developing the screenplay of Brad BirdIt’s from 2011 Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol movie, which was great! They also wrote the two CGI/live-action ones Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Paramount Pictures, which sucked.

Most recently they worked on Amazon’s spy series Citadel and were the showrunners on Netflix’s canceled adaptation Cowboy bebop.

Joining them on the team is Jonathan Eirichwho is behind the Netflix live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series, which was met with mixed reviews. Original writer Joby Harold is also producing with Tory Tunnell.

Space Mountain is the classic indoor roller coaster attraction located in Tomorrowland in Disneyland Park. It was introduced to the public in 1977 and takes guests on an exciting space-themed adventure. It’s one of my favorite rides in the park.

The ride has no story or characters, so the creative team can do pretty much whatever they want and build an original story behind it, which could be fun! The race will serve as inspiration for the story.

There are no plot details to share, but it will be interesting to see how this film turns out.
