Rebecca Ferguson talks about why she was ready to leave the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE franchise

Even though fans were happy with the movie Mission: Impossible – Showdownsome were disappointed to see the character played by Ilsa Faust disappear Rebecca Ferguson in the last three films.

The actress expressed her love for the role, but also her willingness to leave it behind and move on to other projects. In a recent interview on TheWrap’s Unwrapped podcast, the actress explained:

“To speak very clearly – because I know a lot of people are sad about this, I’m sad about this – I had done three movies. My deal was done. And I love her beyond words. Beyond words. I think she’s an amazing character and great. Ilsa was becoming a team player and we can all want different things, but for me Ilsa was bad. Ilsa was unpredictable enough for what she had been.”

The character of Ilsa was introduced for the first time Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation as an antagonist to Tom Cruiseby Ethan Hunt, then the plot saw the couple’s goals align.

A similar path has been explored in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, although that film saw her take an even bigger role in Hunt’s goals. Ferguson’s character arc was intriguing, but he was able to see his entire character arc play out, which is all an actor could really ask for. Ferguson continued:

“Selfishly, there’s a lot of time to do a Mission movie. And unless you have a lot of screen time, that’s a lot of time sitting around waiting to make a huge movie that might take over a year to make. It’s dedication.

There’s a moment where you think it must be worth it, not just to love the character and embrace Tom and [director Christopher McQuarrie] is the story. I want to work, man. I want to work. I don’t want to sit in a trailer and know that maybe there will be a scene in the credits. You literally have to jump when they say jump, and that’s why it’s great.

You are highly qualified, highly qualified. It’s so intoxicatingly exciting when you’re rolling, but there’s a lot of anticipation. And the more characters that are introduced, the greater the anticipation.”

Since it appeared in Mission Impossible franchise, Ferguson has appeared in leading roles in films such as The greatest showmantwo Dune film by Denis Villeneuve and the Apple TV+ series Silo.

We will next see her in the science fiction film Mercyin which he will star Chris Prattwhich will be released in theaters in 2025.
