Chris Columbus to direct Amblin’s THE THURSDAY MURDER CLUB starring Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan and Ben Kingsley

Amblin Entertainment is producing a film adaptation of Richard Osman’s Novel of 2020 The Thursday Murder ClubAND Harry Potter AND Home alone director Chris Colombo set to lead the project.

Besides that, the film is trying to assemble a great cast that includes Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan AND Ben Kingsleywho will take on three of the four main roles in the project.

The film will tell the story of four “seventy-year-old friends who live in a retirement community and solve cold cases for fun. When a shady real estate developer is found dead, the four find themselves in the middle of their first real crime.

Amblin obtained the film rights after a competitive auction that attracted interest from 14 studios. It must be a fantastic book, but it probably also helped that these types of stories are popular right now.

The book description reads: “In a peaceful retirement village, four unlikely friends meet weekly in the Jigsaw Room to discuss unsolved crimes; together they call themselves the Thursday Murder Club.

“When a local builder is found dead with a mysterious photograph left next to his body, the Thursday Murder Club suddenly find themselves in the middle of their first live case.

“As the bodies begin to pile up, can our unorthodox but brilliant gang catch the killer, before it’s too late?”

This should prove to be a fun project for Columbus and the cast to work on! This project was teased last week by the author who shared on Official announcements very soon and I can’t wait to share them with everyone.”

There are four books in The Thursday Murder Club series, so if the first movie does well, we might see some sequels too.
