THE Old boy the franchise dates back to 1996 with the popular manga series, but it wasn’t until the director Park Chan-wookThe film adaptation of was released and the world became familiar with the dark drama thriller.
Well, a new adaptation is on the way, and this time in the form of a series produced by Lionsgate Television and developed by the director of the original film.
Lionsgate made the big announcement but didn’t reveal any other details about what the series will entail.
Lionsgate Television executive Scott Herbst said in a statement: “Park is one of the most visionary storytellers of our generation and we are thrilled to partner with him to bring his cinematic masterpiece to the television screen.”
He continued: “This series adaptation of Old boy will feature the raw emotional power, iconic fight scenes and visceral style that made the film a classic.”
In the original manga, the story follows Shinichi Goto, a man who suddenly finds himself freed from a secluded private prison after a decade. He continues to hunt down those who imprisoned him and discovers why he was targeted.
I imagine that the series will attempt to give us a faithful adaptation of the manga as it will be able to explore the characters that make up the story in much more depth.
It will be interesting to see what other creatives they involve in the development of the series.
What do you think about Lionsgate and Park Chan-wook teaming up to bring us a Old guyserie?
