Paul Bettany joins Mozart’s upcoming series AMADEUS

Paolo Bettany has joined the cast of Sky’s upcoming limited series, Amedeowhich will tell the story of the legendary composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Bettany joins Will Sharpe (The White Lotus) who was previously cast as Mozart in the series. Bettany will play the role of Italian composer Antonio Salieri, Mozart’s longtime rival.

The series comes from Giri/Haji collaborators Joe Barton AND Giuliano Farino and is a retelling of Peter Shaffer’s award-winning play.

The press release states: “Barton’s adaptation will expand and interrogate the two composers’ mythical rivalry. Hero of his story but villain of the story, Salieri’s envy turns vindictive as he uses any means necessary to thwart Mozart and protect his position in the establishment.

Amedeo follows twenty-five-year-old Amadeus (Sharpe) “as he arrives in the bustling musical center of Vienna at the end of the 18th century. Recently unemployed and without his father’s management, Amadeus finds an unlikely ally in the young singer who will become his wife, the fiery Constanze Weber Mozart.

It is explained: “His contacts help bring him into the orbit of the powerful Italian operaist and court composer Antonio Salieri (Bettany), placing the three on a collision course that will ultimately define their lives and legacies for years to come. to come.”

Bettany said in a statement: “I look forward to working with him Giuliano Farino, Joe BartonSky and Will Sharpe who, in my opinion, is undoubtedly the most exciting actor of his generation.”

Production of the series will begin in Hungary this spring.
