A GOLDEN AX animated series is in development for Comedy Central

The classic Sega video game from 1989 Golden axe is getting an animated series adaptation on Comedy Central! This is pretty exciting news and has the potential to be a really cool and fun project!

The series was developed by Mike McMahan and Joe Chandler and there’s even a voice cast!

The voice cast includes Matthew Rhys (The Americans, Perry Mason), Danny Pudi (Community, mythical quest), Lisa Gilroy (Jury Duty, Inner Chinatown), Liam McIntyre (Spartacus, Flash), AND Carlo Tart (Great crew, Star Trek: Lower Decks).

The series follows veteran warriors Ax Battler (McIntyre), Tyris Flare (Gilroy), and Gilius Thunderhead (Rhys) as they fight once again to save Yuria from the evil giant Death Adder who doesn’t seem to want to stay dead. Luckily, this time they have the inexperienced and unprepared Hampton Squib (Pudi) on their side.

Matthew Rhys will play Gilius Thunderhead, a grumpy battle dwarf with exceptionally poor hygiene and a chip on his shoulder.

Danny Pudi will play Hampton Squib, a naive and inexperienced adventurer who has dreamed of research his entire life. He hopes that his positive attitude can make up for his inability to actually get things done.

Lisa Gilroy will play Tyris Flare, a fearsome battle mage, deadly in combat and even more deadly thanks to her sharp wit.

Liam McIntyre will play Ax Battler, a barbarian warrior with a strict code of honor and a sweet golden retriever demeanor. His muscles surpass his brains, but his heart surpasses his muscles.

Carl Tart will play Chronos “Evil” Lait, originally from “Golden Ax III”, he is a 100% badass humanoid panther. At least that’s how Chronos describes himself. It’s actually annoyingly cheesy and can’t read a room.

Comedy Central has ordered 10 episodes. McMahan and Chandler will co-write the first episode of the series and serve as executive producers, with Chandler also serving as showrunner.

Haruki Satomi, President and CEO of Sega Sammy Holdings Inc., Shuji Utsumipresident and COO of Sega Corporation, and Sega’s Toru Nakahara will also serve as executive producers.

Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty AND Toby Ascher of Original Film will also executive produce alongside Titmouse Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio AND Ben Kalina.

Titmouse will serve as the animation studio for the series. CBS Studios’ animation division, CBS Eye Animation, will produce alongside Sony Pictures Television and Original Film.

I can’t wait to see how this Golden Ax animated series turns out!
