The long awaited Deadpool and Wolverine it’s only a few months away and fans have been eager to see it ever since it was announced. The star-studded event won’t be just another chapter in the book of Ryan Reynoldsof Deadpool, but will also see the iconic Merc Mouth teaming up with one of comics’ most beloved badasses, Hugh JackmanIt’s Wolverine.
But the director of the film, Shawn Levy, is setting the record straight about what we should call this movie. When it was announced, everyone was calling it Deadpool 3, but Levy let us know a while back that the film’s title is Deadpool and Wolverinewhich gives equal billing to the two characters for good reason.
Despite this being Reynolds’ third Deadpool film, Levy explained to Screen Rant during CinemaCon:
“As far as creating the story of Deadpool and Wolverine, I felt privileged every day because you’re talking about two huge movie stars in their most iconic roles. It also gave me an opportunity. It’s the third Deadpool movie, but it’s not Deadpool 3. It’s a different thing that’s very reminiscent of Deadpool and Wolverine. And it’s not trying to copy anything from the first two films. They were great, but this is an adventure with two characters.”
Levy joked that the film “will be challenging” and “fun,” and ultimately “wanted to create a great moment in the theater for the audience” as the main goal. The director, writer and producer said that early screenings of the film “were extremely, extremely promising.”
“I wouldn’t say there were any big surprises, but you feel where the pace wants to tighten, you feel where you can allow yourself to slow down and have a deeper, more lasting character moment,” he added.
Deadpool and Wolverine will arrive in theaters on July 26, 2024.
