It has long been rumored and hoped for by fans about that director Sam Raimi will return to his Spider-Man franchise and make another starring film Tobey Maguire as a web crawler. This was renewed after Maguire’s Peter Parker returned to the big screen in Marvel Spider-Man: No Way Homewhere fans got to see him and some of his allies and enemies back in action, but not everyone is pitching in to make that happen.
In a recent interview, Kirsten Dunst, who played Mary Jane Watson in Raimi’s trilogy, was skeptical that such a later film would work. Dunst met with ComicBook to promote her recently released film Civil warand was asked what she thought of Spider-Man 4. She replied:
“I don’t think we need them. I don’t know. It was a long time ago. I just don’t know what they would be like, what the story would be. I don’t know. It seems like… I don’t know.” I do not know! It would really depend on the script, and also, I don’t know, you’re really putting yourself out there in a way that…maybe let’s leave things when they were good, you know what I mean?
Dunst recently revealed this reason why she didn’t appear Spider-Man: No Way Home it was because she wasn’t asked to reprise her role. However, if she had been asked, she would have done so.
While this movie may never get made, another rumor that could succeed is that Tobey Maguire may return to reprise his movie. No way home plot in the near future Avengers movie or the Marvel’s Spider-Man movie. Could Dunst return for one of these? His Mary Jane was mentioned in No way home, so I could see it happen.
