Disney has released the first trailer for Margaret Ridleyis a wonderful looking inspirational drama Young woman and the sea. The film tells the extraordinary true story of Trudy Ederle, the first woman to successfully swim the English Channel.
It feels like one of those great motivational sports dramas that Disney used to make back in the day, and I love those types of movies! Furthermore, this scored very high with test audiences!
Ridley plays the role of an expert swimmer born to immigrant parents in New York City in 1905. With the constant support of her older sister and the support of her instructors, she has overcome the adversity and animosity of a patriarchal society to rise through the ranks of the Olympic swimming team and complete the astounding feat: a 21-mile journey from France to England.
The film was directed by Joachim Rønning (Tron: Ares) and written by Jeff Nathansonbased on the book Young Woman and the Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered the English Channel and Inspired the World by Glenn Stout.
It was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and he also stars in it Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher EcclestonAND Glenn Fleshler.
Young woman and the sea will be released in select theaters on May 31, 2024.
