The new novel BATMAN: RESURRECTION will continue the story of Tim Burton’s Batman ’89

Author John Jackson Miller he is best known for writing several Star Wars novels, more recently The Living Force, and now he’s writing a book that’s set here on Earth — Gotham City, specifically. This story, entitled Batman: Resurrectionis a continuation of the legendary 1989 Tim Burton Batman movie.

Miller released a statement about the new novel in an interview with io9, stating:

“There are dream projects, and then there are projects you never imagined were possible. This is the latter. People always ask me what world I would like to have the chance to write in; I never mentioned Burton’s version of Batman because I never imagined it would happen. But [PRH] editor Tom Hoeler found a way.

Resurrection will directly follow the events following the 1989 film, similar to those of DC Comics Batman ’89 miniseries, as Batman’s fight to protect Gotham following the Joker’s death continues. Ever vigilant, Batman fights the remnants of the Joker’s gang, but between the criminal unrest, the lingering damage that the Joker’s gas attacks have had on the city, and trying to imagine a future for himself beyond crime-fighting, he becomes I realize that it will take both of his strength. masks to try to bring Gotham back to the light: the caped crusader’s hood and Bruce Wayne’s rich wallet. But when he finds his desire to save Gotham becoming an obsession and the forces of the criminal underworld grow more powerful every day, Batman begins to wonder… could his greatest enemy have survived their fateful encounter?

Miller went on to add:

“While the DC Batman ’89 comics are set after the Tim Burton films, I chose to make them Batman: Resurrection a direct sequel novel to [the 1989 movie]that is, characters ranging from Vicki Vale and Alexander Knox to Max Shreck and Selina Kyle The Return of Batman may appear in the book. Batman it shaped the writer I am. I saw it in the theater 12 times. I reviewed it for my college paper and have written about it often in comic magazines, including an essay on Prince’s soundtrack for Warner Bros. Records. Write Batman: Resurrection it was like meeting old friends again.”

Batman: Resurrection will hit shelves on October 15th and is available for pre-order now.
