I have some exciting news for Star Trek fans! Paramount+ has been renewed Star Trek: Strange New Worlds for season 4 as its third season is currently in production. It was also announced that the animated series, Star Trek: Lower Decks will end with its fifth and final season.
Both of these shows are great, but I’m especially fond of Strange New Worlds. That series is simply a Star Wars classic and I love it for that. I’m really happy with how the stories and characters are handled.
Strange New Worlds is set in the years in which Captain Christopher Pike (Mount Anson) commanded the USS Enterprise and featured younger versions of several historical characters, including Spock (Ethan Peck), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding) and Kirk (Paul Wesley). The show also had a great crossover episode Lower decks.
Executive producers and showrunners Akiva Goldman AND Henry Alonso Myers and executive producer Alex Kurtzmann said in a statement: “On behalf of the cast and crew of ‘Strange New Worlds,’ we are thrilled and grateful to continue our journeys together.”
They added: “We look forward to having you join us and the crew of the Enterprise in another season of exploration and adventure.”
Strange New Worlds Season 3 will premiere in 2025.
Lower decks focuses on the junior officers of the USS Cerritos: Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome), Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid), D’Vana Tendi (Noël Wells) and Sam Rutherford (Eugenio Cordero).
It is set in the following years Star Trek: Nemesisand the series has included voice cameos from many Star Trek alumni, such as Giorgio Takei, Jonathan Frakes, Marina Sirtis, Giovanni de Lancie, Will Wheaton, Armin Shimermann, Grandmother Visitor AND Robert Duncan McNeill.
Kurtzman is executive producer and showrunner Mike McMahon shared a statement explaining that the door is open to continue the characters’ stories after the show ends.
They said: “We remain confident that even after the fifth season, Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, Rutherford and the entire Cerritos crew will have new adventures. While five seasons of any series seems like a miracle these days, it’s no exaggeration to say that every second we spent making this show was a dream come true.
Jeff Grossmanexecutive vice president of programming at Paramount+, said, “It has been incredibly rewarding to continue building the Star Trek universe, and we are so grateful to Secret Hideout and our immensely talented cast and producers.”
He added: “Strange new worlds found the perfect blend of action, adventure and humor. Likewise, Star Trek: Lower Decks brought laughter with a lot of heart to the franchise throughout its four seasons. We can’t wait for audiences to see what’s in store for the crew of the USS Cerritos in this final season.”
President of CBS Studios David Stapf She said: “Lower decks AND Strange new worlds they are an integral part of Star Trek franchise, expanding the boundaries of the universe and exploring new and exciting worlds.
He continued: “We are extraordinarily proud of both series as they honor the legacy of what Gene Roddenberry created nearly 60 years ago. We are so grateful to work with Secret Hideout, Alex Kurtzman, Mike McMahan, Akiva Goldsman, Henry Alonso Myers, and the cast, crews and artists who create these important and entertaining stories for fans everywhere.”
