CBS Studios has announced that they will bring back a reboot of the popular ’90s drama, Melrose locationwith members of the original cast Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton AND Dafne Zuniga returning to reprise their roles. The reboot is currently being shopped to networks and streamers.
Written by Lauren Gussiscreator/executive producer of the series Netflix/CBS Studios Insatiablethe new Melrose location picks up years after the original series, created by Darren Stellaand would provide an update on beloved characters, one of which may no longer be with us.
In the new episode, when one of their closest friends suddenly dies, the residents of Melrose Place come together to honor the deceased. But the pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, reignites old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into a chaotic drama reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective .
Locklear, Leighton and Zuniga will star, reprising fan-favorite characters Amanda Woodward, Sydney Andrews and Jo Reynolds respectively. Gussis, Leighton and Zuniga serve as executive producers alongside Tiffany Grant and Jason Weinberg. CBS Studios, which owns Spelling Library, is the studio. A representative for CBS Studios declined to comment.
Melrose location as well as the series from which it was derived, Beverly Hills, 90210, were created by Star and produced by Aaron Spelling’s Spelling Television for Fox. The series, which ran for seven seasons from 1992 to 1999, followed the lives of a group of young adults living in an apartment complex on Melrose Place in the West Hollywood area of Los Angeles.
