Margaret Ridley is going back to the Star Wars universe with the upcoming film Star Wars: New Jedi Order. He got his big break in the 2015 photo The Force awakensand while finishing that trilogy, she also starred in and produced several other great projects which gave her some experience under her belt and a fresh perspective for this new chapter in the series. Ridley has previously teased that the idea for the new film is really interesting, and now she’s taking it a step further, explaining that she wasn’t so eager to return to the franchise that she jumped at the chance.
In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Ridley explained that he is going into this experience “with his eyes a little more open” and said:
“I guess I feel more like I own it. I guess I owned it the first time. Basically, I’m an adult now. He certainly didn’t feel like an adult at that moment. Obviously, personally, things have changed, and professionally, I’ve had a lot of other experiences, so I definitely feel like it’s a different thing this time.
She added:
“There’s a lot of joy in me and in these films. Honestly, if I wasn’t excited, I wouldn’t have done it. It’s great to be a part of it.”
While plot details for the film remain under wraps at this time, Ridley confirmed that she knows the basic plot structure of the film. She went on to talk about why she returned to the franchise, saying:
“It wasn’t a difficult decision. I didn’t say yes right away, Kathy [Kennedy] it was like, ‘Take all the time you need.’ Why shouldn’t I? [do it]? Yes, they have been divisive, but they also bring a lot of love and joy to a lot of people. It’s really amazing to be able to continue a character – like, can I even remember how to play her? It’s an interesting challenge as an actor to go back to something and try to understand what changed for me and what changed for her.
Little is known about the new film at the moment, but May 4th is only a few weeks away and I bet we’ll hear something interesting!
