Superman star David Corenswet revealed some of the comics’ plots James Gunnwill draw inspiration from the highly anticipated DC film by.
The actor recently made a surprise appearance at a screening of his new film, The greatest hitsand, as you might imagine, he was asked questions about the upcoming DCU reboot.
Of course, the actor won’t go into specifics about the film or reveal anything crazy, but he did share some of the comic book series that inspired Gunn, but also notes that the film will be “totally standalone.”
The two comic series he mentions are Superman for all seasons AND Stellar Superman. Gunn previously talked about Superman For All Seasons, saying it’s “one of my favorite Superman stories and that it was a huge influence on Legacy (and a strangely perfect bookend to All-Star Superman).”
The 4-issue limited series was created by Jeph Loeb AND Tim Sale and was published in 1998. The story is a coming-of-age tale, with four separate stories focusing on Clark coming to terms with his powers, his connection to Smallville, and the influence of these – particularly his parents, Lois Lane, and Lana Lang – around him.
Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Even Superman stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane; Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern; Isabela Mercede as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría in the role of Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampaio, in the role of Eva Teschmacher; AND Terence Rosemore as Otis.
Superman will launch the cinematic portion of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. The theatrical release is scheduled for July 11, 2025.

“(James Gunn), the director, is a wonderful guy, he even wrote it. He has a great love for music and for Los Angeles, where the movie is set, where we shot it”
